As the Boring company continues its research and development of the hyper loop’s design, they are getting ever closer to begin creating operational loops on a small city scale. The company already has a hyper 5loop in Hawthorne, California that travels at around 150 mph and only cost around $10 million per mile, which is drastically cheaper than their original number of $1 billion. These statistics meet the company’s goals of providing faster travel and low cost tunneling that will allow the company to start large scale building. Another set back that the company has overcome is the issue with government approval and funding for small scale projects. The Boring Company has received funding for hyper loops for cities such as Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Washington DC. With these multi billion dollar government contracts in hand, the only thing the company needs to do now is to finalize their designs, and begin digging. The actual time frame of these projects to be fully complete will take years. To accomplish a major civil engineering project like this the company is going to have to submit a detailed plan to the city for approval, which will most likely take months to complete and even longer to put into effect. The boring machines themselves are actually quite slow due to the fact that they are digging a hole through the earth and only move about 20m a day, which is a little more than 1% of a mile. The company is on its way to changing local commuting and transportation on a large scale.
Another thing that should be considered is the implementation and the price of using the hyper loop. In order for the hyper loop system to actually change the means of public transit forever it is going to have to be at least the price of other modes of transportation such as metro or busing. A great idea for the company to maybe implement is a subscription to the loops where if you pay a certain amount a month you could have unlimited access to the hyper loops in a certain city. With a program like this, the company would be able to easily compete with a metro system with one flat fee.
